Sofitel expands kids’ program with TV channel

Eloise would have been pleased.

Sofitel Luxury Hotels has partnered with TV5MONDE, a French language network broadcasting in the United States, to create a new channel called Tivi5MONDE, a French language children’s channel. Children at all eight Sofitel properties in the United States can begin watching it this year.

It will broadcast – commercial-free, 24 hours a day, every day – educational programs for children 3 to 13. Called the Le Petit Prince series, it will offer animated films, cartoons and original series.

The new channel is part of Magnifique Family, Sofitel’s children’s program. As part of the program, each day the Sofitel donates 2 euros (about $2.66) to the Saint-Exupéry Foundation, which helps children in difficult environments in France and worldwide.

Hotels nationwide have increasingly been catering to children with special meals, discounts, organized outings and other amenities. Affinia Hotels, for instance, offers a family package that includes a complimentary backpack stocked with Frommer’s With Kids guidebook (for Chicago, New York and D.C.), a deck of 52 travel activity cards, a kid’s digital camera and a scrapbook. Fairmont Hotels this year introduced a new children’s menu with healthier, kid-friendly options.

Children checking into any Sofitel will get a travel diary with space to write about their experiences and add drawings and photos. At some of Sofitel’s 100 locations worldwide, children will also get free breakfast and their parents will get a 50% discount on a second room and optional late checkout up to 4 p.m.

“This partnership is a perfect match for our existing family-friendly Magnifique Family program as well as a nice complement of our Le Petite Prince experience,” says Pierre-Louis Renou, director of communications for Sofitel North America.

“We believe this new channel will enrich the entertainment experience of Sofitel visitors in the U.S.,” says Marie-Christine Saragosse, managing director of TV5MONDE.

TV5MONDE is seen throughout the United States on Cablevision, Comcast, Cox, Time Warner and satellite Dish Network.
