Among the new hotels will be the Sheraton Macao, which will become Sheraton’s biggest hotel with nearly 4,000 rooms. It will also be the largest resort owned by parent company Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.

The new hotels are part of Sheraton’s $5 billion push to grow globally, particularly in Asia and the Middle East. Sheraton already has 60 resorts worldwide, and and 400 properties overall.

Major U.S. hotel chains have been flocking to China in the last couple of years. For good reason: The China National Tourist Office estimates that China had $26.1 million visitors last year. Marriott International last week pledged to open one hotel a month in China for the next three years. So far, it has 56 hotels in China, including its Ritz Carlton and JW Marriott brands, and has signed deals this year for 26 additional properties. Hilton plans to have 100 hotels, including DoubleTree and Waldorf Astoria properties, in China by 2014.
