NCL to send four ships to Europe in 2013

Norwegian Cruise Line will send four ships to Europe in 2013 — the same number as in 2012.

The line today announced the Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Spirit, all scheduled to sail in the Mediterranean in 2012, will be back in the region for the summer of 2013. The line says the Norwegian Star will sail in the Baltic for the summer of 2013, taking the place of the Norwegian Sun, which is moving to Alaska.

The Norwegian Epic, Norwegian’s largest ship, is returning to the Mediterranean for a third straight year. The ship once again will sail seven-night summer voyages out of Barcelona but on a slightly different itinerary. The ship will continue to visit Marseille, France and Civitavecchia (near Rome), Naples and Livorno (near Pisa) in Italy, but instead of stopping in Villefranche, France it will visit Spain’s Majorca.

The Norwegian Jade will sail out of Venice for the summer of 2013, offering alternating seven-night Greek Isles and seven-night Adriatic, Greece and Turkey itineraries.

The Norwegian Spirit will spend the summer of 2013 sailing one-way, 12-night Grand Mediterranean voyages between Barcelona and Venice. As in the past, the itineraries include stops at nine ports in five different countries.

The Norwegian Star will spend the summer sailing nine-night Baltic cruises out of Copenhagen, Denmark. Highlights of the itinerary include two full days in St. Petersburg, Russia and an afternoon cruise of the Stockholm Archipelago upon the ship’s departure from Stockholm, Sweden. One new feature of the itinerary, as compared with Norwegian’s Baltic cruises in the past, is a stop in Helsingborg, Sweden.

The Norwegian Star also will offer a single 14-night Norway, Iceland and Faroe Island cruise from Copenhagen on Sept. 19, 2013.

Two of the Norwegian ships will remain in Europe through the winter of 2013/2014. From October 2013 through April 2014, the Norwegian Jade will reposition from Venice to Civitavecchia, Italy (near Rome) to sail a series of 10-night Eastern Mediterranean and 11-night Mediterranean the Holy Land voyages. On Oct. 26, 2013, Norwegian Spirit will begin a series of 20 nine-night Canary Island cruises.
