Kate Gosselin cruise

This item was written by Larry Bleiberg, former travel editor of The Dallas Morning News and Coastal Living magazine. Bleiberg is serving as Guest Editor of The Cruise Log while USA TODAY Cruise Editor Gene Sloan is away.

There’ll be room for Kate plus thousands more this August on a special theme sailing on the world’s largest cruise ship, Allure of the Seas.

The Royal Caribbean vessel will host Kate Gosselin, the former Kate Plus 8 star, on a Western Caribbean sailing from Fort Lauderdale Aug. 12-19. Depending on your TV watching habits, this is either a great idea or a nightmare.

Celebrity journalists have been having a field day with the prospect of spending your vacation with the famous multitasking mom (she’s a coupon blogger, former Dancing With the Stars contestant and best-selling author, among many other things).

The Twitterverse has been having fun too. “Royal Caribbean just launched ‘Set Sail with Kate Gosselin.’ Throwing her overboard is not listed as a nightly activity,” a Tweeter named candyandpotter shared.

Guests will have multiple opportunities to meet with the mother of eight. Special events with Gosselin include:

  • A private welcome cocktail party
  • A commemorative personalized gift
  • A personal photo
  • A private barbecue, brunch, book signing, QA session, family games, and farewell dinner
  • A craft session that she will teach
  • An optional charity dinner and shore excursions

The trip will visit Labadee, Haiti; Falmouth, Jamaica; and Cozumel, Mexico. Prices range from $1,900 to $3,175, double occupancy. For information, visit
