Hotels gear up for international expansion

Some popular hotel chains are gearing up for a major international expansion this year.

Renaissance, a Marriott brand, will open nine new properties this year in key international destinations. They will include: Abu Dhabi, Barcelona, Shanghai, Rome, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Huizhou, Shenzhen and Istanbul.

A couple of highlights:

The Renaissance Barcelona Hotel, the second Renaissance hotel in Spain, will celebrate its grand opening on April 26. It will have a 24-hour fitness center and several dining options, including CRU Steak House, CUIT Bar and Lounge and La Terrassa roof top bar.

The hotel will also feature a modern business center and eight facilities for meetings and events, each with modern technical and AV equipment.

The 383-room Renaissance Shanghai Caohejing Hotel, the sixth Renaissance in Shanghai, is set to open its doors in the second quarter of 2012. It will be located in the Shanghai Caohejing Hi‐Tech Park district, and will be easily accessible to the Xujiahui and Hongqiao business areas. Three on-site restaurants will include Wan Li, a modern Cantonese restaurant, and Smoki Moto, an international barbecue restaurant with a Japanese twist. There will also be a Club Lounge on the 25th floor with panoramic views of Shanghai, a full-service spa and an indoor swimming pool.

The Hilton Bogota recently opened this year in Colombia in the heart of the capital city’s financial district and near the “Zona G” dining and entertainment district.

The company plans to open two more hotels in Latin America this year: The Hilton Lima Miraflores in Peru and the Hilton Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

Hilton Worldwide, the parent company, has 46 hotels and resorts in Latin America and plans to add properties in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Panama and Peru.

Meanwhile Hyatt Hotels Corp. has opened the Park Hyatt Hyderabad, the first city Park Hyatt hotel in India.

Located in the upscale Banjara Hills neighborhood just 15 minutes from the technology hub of Hi-Tech City, the hotel has 185 guestrooms and 24 suites. It’s also the first hotel in Hyderabad to offer 42 fully serviced luxury apartments, The Residence, with five-star facilities and amenities.

It features a spa and a number of restaurants, all designed with interactive show kitchens.
