Holland America unveils another around-the-world cruise for 2013

Holland America is planning yet another epic, around-the-world cruise for 2013.

The line today announced the 1,380-passenger Amsterdam would sail a 115-day, globe-circling itinerary out of Fort Lauderdale early in the year that includes more than 40 port calls in South America, the South Pacific, New Zealand, Australia, Asia and Africa.

The Grand World Voyage, as the line calls its longest sailings, will begin in Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 5, 2013 and end back at the same spot in May 1, 2013.

Holland America has been offering world cruises for more than 50 years, and the newly announced sailing will mark the eighth time the Amsterdam has sailed around the world since debuting in October 2000.

The Amsterdam will begin the trip by heading south to Cartagena, Colombia, before a daylight transit of the Panama Canal. From there, the vessel will head westbound to the South Pacific islands of Bora Bora and Tahiti, followed by visits to multiple ports in New Zealand, Australia and Asia.

After a journey across the Indian Ocean, the Amsterdam will visit the southern tip of Africa, going around the Cape of Good Hope before heading across the Atlantic to South America and the Caribbean. The sailing will include the Amsterdam’s first call in Makassar, Indonesia, and Penneshaw, Australia.

Fares for the voyage start at $19,999 per person, based on double occupancy. Shorter segments of the trip also are available at a lower rate.

Holland America today also announced plans for three other long sailings in 2013. In addition to its around-the-world voyage early in the year, the Amsterdam will sail a 75-day Grand Pacific and Far East voyage later in the year from Vancouver, B.C. or Los Angeles that will include stops in Micronesia, China, Japan, the Philippines and French Polynesia. Holland America’s smaller, 793-passenger Prinsendam will sail a 68-day Grand South America and Antarctica voyage and a 64-day Grand Mediterranean voyage.

Both of the Prinsendam sailings are roundtrip out of Fort Lauderdale, allowing North American vacationers to reach destinations as far-flung as Lima, Peru and Marmaris, Turkey without boarding an international airline flight.

Fares for the Prinsendam’s Grand South America and Antarctica voyage start at $12,999 per person, based on double occupancy. Fares for the ship’s 64-day Grand Mediterranean voyage start at $11,499. Fares for the Amsterdam’s Grand Pacific Far East voyage start at $10,999.

Holland America says customers who book the Grand Pacific Far East voyage by Nov. 30, 2012, and the Grand World, Grand Mediterranean and Grand South America Antarctica voyages by May 31, 2012 will receive extra amenities.
