Groupon offers $25,000 lesson with chef

How much would you pay for a private cooking lesson with celebrity chef Todd English?

Groupon has managed to convince at least one person to drop $25,000 for the opportunity. And there’s one more lesson up for grabs.

As part of its new Epic Deals series, the daily deals site is offering a 90-minute private cooking lesson for two with James Beard Award-winning English at either of his two New York restaurants: Ca Va or Olives. (Note: Olives is closed for renovations January to February.)

Also included in the price: dinner with English for the two cooking students plus two guests, a three-night stay for two at the newly renovated Affinia Manhattan, a double-thumbed oven mitt, a $100 food and beverage credit at Niles New York City Restaurant Bar, and up to four signed copies of English’s new book, Cooking in Everyday English: The ABCs of Great Flavor at Home.

Asked if the price tag was really a deal, Groupon spokeswoman Julie Mossler said: “The price points are the highest we’ve offered on the site but based on ‘uniqueness’ and the value provided.”

Other Epic Deals have involved private time with the Harlem Globetrotters and Ellen DeGeneres.
