Deal watch: NCL kicks off Wave Season sale

Norwegian Cruise Line once again is one of the first big cruise companies to unveil a promotion for “Wave” season, the busy booking period between January and March.

Norwegian’s ‘Take it to the Next Level’ offer, unveiled today, is similar to the promotion it ran last year during Wave season: Passengers who book now through March 31, 2012 will get a free upgrade, and the 11-ship line also is throwing in e-coupons for on-board savings of up to $400.

Caveats: The free upgrade is good within the same cabin category (i.e. from a balcony cabin to a better balcony cabin), and the e-coupons are for sailings taking place before Dec. 31, 2012. Customers will receive the e-coupons electronically after checking in online for their cruise, and they’re good for spa treatments, Internet minutes and a complimentary dinner in a specialty restaurant.

Norwegian is sweetening the offer for customers who book between now and Dec. 18 by promising a mini-suite for the price of a balcony cabin; a balcony cabin for the price of an ocean-view cabin; and an ocean-view cabin for the price of inside cabin (those without windows).

The line also has reduced its deposit requirement for new bookings by 50% during the promotion.
