The latest Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, opening today, was partially filmed on the Port Canaveral-based Carnival Dream cruise ship.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked! has, as the title implies, a nautical angle to it, with the cast embarking on a vacation aboard a cruise ship.

Filming on the Dream took place in January. It mostly happened on open decks, according to cruise industry reports, and within the ship’s outdoor recreation areas.

Ports on the Dream’s Caribbean itinerary, including Belize and Costa Maya, provided a backdrop for some of the scenes.

This is the third movie featuring Alvin and the Chipmunks. The previous two grossed more than $800 million.
