Celebrity Cruises to expand in Europe

Celebrity Cruises will send six ships to Europe for the summer of 2013 — its largest deployment ever in the region.

Celebrity CEO Dan Hanrahan told travel agents in London on Wednesday that the line’s recently revamped Celebrity Infinity will join the Celebrity Eclipse in the U.K., while the Celebrity Constellation, Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Silhouette and soon-to-debut Celebrity Reflection will sail in other parts of Europe.

The deployment increases Celebrity’s commitment to Europe by one ship. The line is sending five vessels to the region this summer, as it did in 2011.

Celebrity is in the midst of a multiyear expansion that is allowing it to expand deployments in a number of regions. The line has added four new ships since 2008, with one more (the Celebrity Reflection) arriving in October. Currently under construction at a shipyard in Germany, the 3,030-passenger Celebrity Reflection will be the line’s 11th vessel.

Hanrahan told travel agents that the Celebrity Infinity will sail British Isles and Norwegian Fjords cruises in 2013 out of Harwich, England. The Celebrity Eclipse will continue to sail out of Southampton, England.

Hanrahan did not reveal specific itineraries or pricing for the ships heading to Europe in 2013. The line says that will be coming in March, when the sailings open for bookings.
