Carnival waiter charged with sex crime

Federal authorities in Florida charged a Carnival Cruise Lines waiter with engaging in a sexual act with a minor during a Carnival voyage this month.

The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida alleges that Kert Clyde Jordan, 35, of Grenada committed the crime while working aboard the Carnival Liberty, which sails out of Miami.

The alleged victim, an unnamed 14-year-old passenger, was vacationing on the ship with her family, and the charge relates to incidents that allegedly occured Nov. 4 and 5 in a bathroom on the ship’s Lido Deck, according to the U.S. attorney’s complaint. The ship was in international waters at the time.

The complaint says the victim told her family about the sexual acts upon returning home from the cruise.

In a statement, Carnival says it is cooperating with law enforcement authorities involved in the case. “Carnival has a zero tolerance policy for crime, and we take any allegations of crime extremely seriously,” the line says in the statement.
