Another Carnival ship gets a major makeover

The 2,124-passenger Carnival Spirit has emerged from a multi-week makeover that saw the addition of an expansive water park area and a new adults-only retreat.

The upgrades to the San Diego-based ship also include new flat-screen televisions in every cabin.

Located on Deck 11, the Carnival Spirit’s new WaterWorks water park area includes a thrill slide called Green Thunder that rises nearly 100 feet in the air and features a hairpin turn that extends over the ship’s side. Also in the area is a water play zone that includes a 150-gallon “PowerDrencher” dump bucket and another water slide called the Twister.

The new adults-only area, called Serenity, is located on Deck 9 and includes a jumbo-sized whirlpool, chaise lounges, chairs and hammocks as well as a full-service bar.

Both WaterWorks and Serenity are features already found on a number of Carnival’s 23 ships.

The upgrades come as Carnival prepares to move to the Carnival Spirit to Australia. The ship will operate eight- to 13-day Pacific Islands and New Zealand cruises in the region starting in October.
